GREEN SENATE TIP’S TO SAVE THE EARTH

1. Have a light bulb moment
If every home replaces just one (1) light bulb with energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL), enough energy will be saved to light more than three (3) million homes for a year. That is equivalent to cutting the world’s electricity bill for a month. This evolved form of lighting system is not inconvenient in any way. They last ten (10x) times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. They also come in a range of shapes and sizes so you don’t have to compromise on style.
2. Don’t have a cow, have a carrot
Fast Fact: – The stomachs of the world’s 1.4 billion cows contain 14% of global emissions of methane. Methane is a deadly greenhouse gas, 20 times more potent than CO2. The pros of wheat over meat continue when it comes to the rate of food production. It takes far more energy, land and water to produce the equivalent amount of calories from meat than from grain or soya. With locally grown, seasonal foods being produced CO2 needed to ship foods around the world can be significantly reduced.
3. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Wherever you can combine the three (3) watchwords of a clean environment into your daily schedule to help in the reduction of waste. Whenever you can recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminium cans. Be innovative! Start your own reduceycle-earth saving system! Fast Fact-on average, every person in the UK throws away their own body weight in waste every seven (7) weeks.
4. Turn off isn’t off enough
One (1) million tons of greenhouse gases are pumped into the atmosphere every year by appliances left on standby. So with respect to our myriad of appliances, when it is turned off, is it off enough? The debate remains very heated as to whether electrical devices are still pulling energy. Something must be powering these appliances enough to keep the red light and time appearing. Nevertheless every attempt should be made to reduce global warming. Go the extra mile by unplugging electronics and compare your billing costs.
5. Plant a tree, save a nation
All you have to do is plant a tree and automatically you activate an instrument that naturally absorbs carbon dioxide and gives off oxygen. Trees and plants are an integral part of the natural atmospheric exchange cycle here on Planet Earth, but there are too few of them to fully counter the increase in carbon dioxide caused by automobile traffic, manufacturing and other human activities.
6. Please don’t use the tree you planted all out in one day
One manufacturer estimated that one (1) cord of wood measuring 4 feet by 8 feet produces nearly 90,000 sheets of bond quality paper. We may not use the tree we planted worth of paper, but if we aren’t careful we could do so in a very short space of time.
7. Become an Active Citizen in the fight for our home
Join the fight of organizations and groups globally in the battle against climate change. JCI has sent a strong signal in this regard. Get meaningly involved through dependable sources such as The JCI Ecologist and the Energy Saving Trust websites. If we gain a bit more information daily then our outlook will eventually change. Encourage others by sharing the information gathered. That could be the beginning of the establishment of programs and policies.
